We are the
group of section euro pupils from Institution Saint-Pierre who went
to the “Journée Débat Citoyen” at the IADT in Clermont-Ferrand which was
organized by Massillon last Tuesday...
We attended a conference by Professor Rieutort in the morning about regions in
France which lasted over an hour. We learnt a lot about why there are new regions.
We had a picnic lunch in the sunny "Jardin Lecoq."
In the afternoon, we listened to a round table discussion with: a member of the EU Committee
of the Regions, the Vice-President of the Allier “Département,” the director of
the “Galipote” satirical newspaper, the representative of the President of the
Regional Council, and an academic from the IADT. They talked about the future of our region
and answered pupils’ questions.
The last part
of the day started at 15:30. It was a debate between two teams of three pupils
from Massillon. One of the teams was “for” the new region and the other one was
“against”. It was, for us, the most engaging part of the “Journée” because we
could participate more actively and give our opinions.
It was a
really interesting day which gave us a lot of information about our new region.
Now we understand a bit more why the government chose to enlarge our regions; we
understand that it was to be more competitive at the EU level.
